May is a month of important commemorations. International Workers’ Day (aka May Day) takes place every year on May 1. We aren’t aware of any Saskatoon events this year, but the Regina & District Labour Council hosted a week of May Day events. A few days earlier on the National Day of Mourning, gatherings were held in remembrance of the 31 Saskatchewan workers who died on the job in 2021. In Alberta, 178 people died from work-related injuries and illnesses last year.
