Singing for a Better World - Choir Practice

When we lift our voices together in song, we lift our spirits too and experience an unparalleled sense of connection with each other. No wonder singing has been part of so many social movements!

Our choir has met a few times and had our first street performance at the Saskatoon Climate March on September 27. Now, we're preparing for more opportunities coming our way!

Do you want to join with others in singing for a better world? Then come out to one or all of our upcoming gatherings to learn some songs about protecting the earth and building peace and justice:

October 10 & 22 and November 14 & 26

ALL welcome - if you haven't joined us yet, please do! No prior singing experience or musical knowledge required. Players of guitars/banjos/ukuleles/etc also very welcome!

To join our email list, email Kathryn Green at kathrynlgreen@gmail.com

Don't forget your water bottle!

No Short Cuts Book Club

How do we organize to change society in a more just and fair way? How to we bring together a diverse array of activists, students, and union members? These are the questions at the forefront of many activists today and is at the centre of Jane McAlevey’s new book, No Shortcuts: Organizing for Power in the New Gilded Age. Please join students, community members, and union members for a 4-part book club discussion on McAlevey’s latest book. This book club is a collaboration between the Stand Community Organizing Centre, Stop the Cuts, and Turning the Tide Bookstore – the goal is to develop our understanding of communities and unions working together to achieve a more just society, and to put that understanding into action. This book club also serves as an opportunity to build your network and share ideas – all are welcome!

September 19 - Chapters 1 & 2
October 17 - Chapter 3 & 4
November 21 - Chapters 6 & 7
December 5 - Last chapter

We encourage you to visit your local book store, Turning the Tide, for purchase of this book. There will also be copies of the book that have been purchased for the use of a book share at Turning the Tide. Please email The Stand at inquiry@turning.ca to arrange your copy. See you there!
