Ghana Community Library Project (North America Launch)
About this event
In many parts of the world children walk several hours to access educational opportunities such as formal schooling, libraries and other resources. Are you interested in equity, social_justice and women’s empowerment? Join Dr Jacob Alhassan and Board Members of Ad Astra foundation in the launch of an NGO and fund raising campaign to build a community library in Nwodua in rural northern Ghana.
At our launch we will describe how we are rejecting older paradigms of charity in favour of a community engaged social justice perspective that centres decolonization to raise funds and create learning opportunities for children in rural communities in Ghana.
Join our launch to learn about our community engagement work and share your thoughts on how we can work together to use libraries as tools to reduce inequalities in education.
There will be presentations by board members (Sejoah Esther and Raymond Abdulai) on the ground in Ghana and others (Dr Jacob Alhassan, Eunice Anteh, Monica Van Schaik, Janaya Gerwing and Kwame Botchway) currently in Canada and USA.
Conversations and presentations will be moderated by Denise MacDonald from the Saskatchewan Council for International Cooperation.
