Fall is here and we’re back with monthly updates on The Stand and other initiatives for social, environmental, and economic justice.
Scroll through to the bottom for some truly exciting and important events on Climate Justice, including the Just Transitions Symposium in Regina.
But first… Let us tell you what we accomplished at The Stand over the summer!
- Group Memberships are now available, making it easier for us to fulfill our mission of building social movements by facilitating the exchange of knowledge, resources, and mutual support amongst people and groups working towards social, environmental, and economic justice.
- New perks for Individual Membership, including 10% off books and movie rentals at Turning the Tide and access to the new Radical Lending Library!
- Our new Volunteer Survey is helping us inventory members’ skills, so that when those skills are needed for events and campaigns by The Stand and our Member Groups, we can quickly and easily find people to provide them.
- Our new Community Calendar is now online to help everyone keep track of and schedule their own events for social, environmental, and economic justice. Email us to add your events.
- A wider selection of Equipment Rentals are available for rallies and events.
- A second meeting room is now available for just $10/hour.
Help Keep The Stand Growing…

We’ve been doing a lot with very little, but to keep the momentum, we need to sign up $2200/month of monthly sustainer donations by the end of September.
As of today, we already have almost $900/month, with just over 40 sustainer donors chipping in $10 – $50 each.
With $1300 more per month from roughly 60 more people, we’ll reach our goal and be able to:
- Hire a coordinator for two days a week to keep The Stand growing.
- Remain independently funded so that we’re not beholden to the agendas of government and corporate funders.
- Replenish the Community Organizing Fund that supports grassroots organizing with the revenue from rentals, memberships, and coworking passes.
Would you like to become one of The Stand’s Sustainers?
If yes, please click on this link and choose the option: “Become a Monthly Sustainer of The Stand.”
Or just let us know by email: organize@thestandcentre.ca.
From everyone at The Stand, thank you for your continued interest and support for social, environmental, and economic justice.

A Consensus Decision Making Workshop
1:00 – 5:00 pm Sunday, September 23
The Stand Community Organizing Centre
Many of us experience very little control over our lives in the wider world, with decisions being made for us by bosses, politicians, and corporate powers. This system promises rewards that are mostly about mobility within the hierarchy: getting a promotion, buying status by owning different stuff. And we’re encouraged to compete with each other and scapegoat whoever is beneath us in the pile, instead of questioning why there isn’t enough to go round in the first place.
Using consensus gives us a taste of how things could be done differently. It aims to dismantle all kind of hierarchy, and replace it with shared power. It is based on the values of equality, freedom, co-operation and respect for everyone’s needs.
Join us at The Stand for an interactive workshop on the consensus process for group decision making, and learn to radically democratize how you organize!
